Preparing the Hives

The honey extraction process actually starts long before we open up the hives. Our bees spend weeks collecting nectar from wildflowers throughout Clinton and the surrounding areas. When the honeycomb frames are completely capped with beeswax, we know the honey is ready to harvest. This is the perfect time to get to work!

The Extraction Process

First, we carefully remove the frames from the hive. This is where patience and respect for our bees really matter. We gently brush away any remaining bees and transport the frames to our extraction area. Next comes the fun part – uncapping! Using a hot knife or uncapping tool, we slice off the thin layer of beeswax that seals each cell.
